Imagine if you could combine beer and the best team in the land….Manchester City!
Ok so we’ve not actually made beer but have done what we think is the next best thing.
Combining our love of City and craft beer, we’ve created a series of beer mats based on the players from Manchester City’s 2021 title winning side.
Dubbed “Kegs of the Kippax” the exclusive range pays homage to the legendary City term for Colin Bell – the King of the Kippax!
Each beer mat features a player with elements such as their country of birth, shirt number or a song City fans sing about them. There’s even a “we’ve got Guardiola” beer, a multi award winning lager!
Created exclusively by The Ginger Wig, a Seasoncard holder for over 20 years, they are proving popular with City fans who have built a garden pub during lockdown.
Ethan said on Twitter “Had these arrive a couple of days ago, they’re mint, can’t wait to use them”
There are 12 beer mats in the set, with each one printed on the reverse with the Kegs of the Kippax design featuring the wall behind the old Kippax stand at Maine Road. Ten of them are based on key players from this season including the Player of the Season Ruben Dias. As you’d expect there is a special edition Champions 2021 version and the best manager in the world has his own too.
This project started in January and took over four months to finalise the designs after 8 rounds of amends! The Ginger Wig has picked some of his favourite parts:
Bernardo
The Bernardo design had to feature a reference to his famous Guard of Honour performance for the Liverpool game. Drawing on extensive beer knowledge it was thought a Coffee Porter beer fitted perfectly!
Ederson
Featuring the popular song, the Ederson bottle openers pay tribute to his terrace anthem. The font used for the words “He’s Brazilian” is the same font used on the Oasis video for “She’s Electric” – the music to which the song is based. A smiley face features paying homage to Ederson’s tattoo behind his ear.
Foden
Featuring two of Stockport’s most famous landmarks, the brick railway viaduct and pyramid office building, felt just right for City’s Stockport Iniesta.
Why Stockport Iniesta? From an early age Phil’s talent was likened to that of Barcelona’s world class midfielder Andres Iniesta. A tribute to City’s “Taste of Spain from the banks of the river Mersey”. You may not know that the river Mersey travels through Stockport on it’s way to Liverpool.
The beer mats can be purchased online here with worldwide delivery available.
Each mat is sourced from ethical materials and 100% recyclable. They are delivered in a ‘Kegs of the Kippax’ presentation box.
Also available are the matching twelve bottle openers.
